20th Triennial Symposium 2025
ACASA is excited to announce the 20th Triennial Symposium on African Art will be held in Rabat, Morocco, from July 13 to 18, 2027 at the Faculté des Sciences de l’Éducation – Université Mohammed V de Rabat.
This Triennial marks only the second time it has been held on the African continent, and the first time in North Africa, a region whose dynamic histories, layered identities, and artistic legacies are integral to the broader story of African art and history.
Rabat is a cultural crossroads nestled between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, serving as a vital link between Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and beyond. It is a place where Arab, Amazigh, Sub-Saharan, and global influences have converged to create a significant artistic and intellectual legacy.
Holding the Triennial in Rabat means celebrating Africa’s plural artistic voices from the continent’s northern edge, bridging pan-African and diasporic dialogues through shared history and contemporary vision, and elevating the North African context within global discourses on African art.
ACASA est ravie d’annoncer que le 20e Symposium Triennal sur l’Art Africain se tiendra à Rabat, au Maroc, du 13 au 18 juillet 2027, à la Faculté des Sciences de l’Éducation – Université Mohammed V de Rabat.
Ce Symposium Triennal marque seulement la deuxième fois qu’il se déroule sur le continent africain, et la première fois en Afrique du Nord, une région aux histoires dynamiques, identités multiples et héritages artistiques profonds, essentiels à l’histoire plus large de l’art et de l’histoire africains. Rabat est un carrefour culturel niché entre l’Atlantique et la Méditerranée, jouant un rôle de lien vital entre l’Afrique, l’Europe, le Moyen-Orient et au-delà. C’est un lieu où les influences arabes, amazighes, subsahariennes et mondiales se sont rencontrées pour créer un héritage artistique et intellectuel significatif.
Organiser le Symposium à Rabat revient à célébrer les voix artistiques plurielles de l’Afrique depuis la bordure nord du continent, à créer des ponts entre les dialogues panafricains et diasporiques à travers une histoire partagée et une vision contemporaine, et à valoriser le contexte nord-africain dans les discours mondiaux sur l’art africain.
Nous sommes ravis d’annoncer que l’hôte de la Conférence Triennale ACASA 2027 sera la Faculté des Sciences de l’Éducation de l’Université Mohammed V de Rabat, au Maroc. Ce ne sera que la deuxième fois que la Triennale se tiendra sur le continent africain (la première ayant eu lieu au Ghana en 2017). Cela reflète l’aspiration à ce que chaque autre édition de la plus grande conférence mondiale sur les arts africains se déroule sur le continent africain. Pays d’Afrique du Nord, le Maroc se trouve depuis des siècles au carrefour des civilisations africaines, européennes et moyen-orientales. En plus d’ouvrir davantage l’ACASA à la recherche francophone (ainsi qu’en arabe et en tamazight), nous espérons que notre partenariat avec l’Université Mohammed V donnera lieu à de nouvelles collaborations et à des échanges enrichissants. Rabat est en outre une magnifique ville historique, riche de nombreux monuments archéologiques, musées, attractions culturelles et dotée d’une scène artistique contemporaine dynamique. Nous avons hâte de vous retrouver au Maroc en 2027!

The Faculty of Educational Sciences (FSE) – Mohammed V University of Rabat, along with its artistic and academic partners, will be present at this exciting scientific and artistic event dedicated to art and creativity on the African continent. We are especially happy and honored to host this gathering and to celebrate African art at our university.
