Mission and DEI Statements

Mission Statement

At ACASA, our mission is to promote a greater understanding of the culture and art of Africa and the African Diaspora. We bring together scholars, artists, and enthusiasts worldwide to learn, connect, and collaborate.

DEI Statement

Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
ACASA is a non-profit organization with a membership base of over 1,800 people worldwide. Our community is passionate about the arts of Africa and the African Diaspora. Scholars, teachers, students, artists, museum specialists, collectors, and enthusiasts come together through ACASA to share current research and activities in the field. Our work promotes a greater understanding of African art and its many forms. We support our members by fostering communication, collaboration and sharing knowledge.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion are core values in ACASA. Diversity, a cornerstone of our organization, is more than just a word to us. It’s a fundamental aspect of our collective success. The diversity of our members, spanning race, gender, language, location and more, enriches our work and gives it a deeper purpose. We believe in learning from and with each other as it leads to a more profound understanding of art from Africa and the African Diaspora.

ACASA is deeply committed to equity. We acknowledge that our members from Africa, the Caribbean, Europe, and North America have varying access levels to information and support. This includes governmental, local, and academic funding, access to technology and other resources. Our unwavering commitment is to eliminate these barriers and create a fair and inclusive environment. We strive to provide equitable opportunities for our members to participate and fully engage in our mission.

At ACASA, we value inclusion. We believe every member has something valuable to offer. We are committed to creating an organization where everyone’s contributions are recognized and respected. Whether in leadership, decision-making, or ongoing engagement, we strive to create an inclusive culture that fosters a sense of belonging for all.

Our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion reflects our values and beliefs. We work to foster a welcoming organization where all our members thrive.
