Online Access to African Objects in North American Art Museums: A Survey for Africa-Based Website Users

This survey aims to better understand how people based in Africa who are interested in African material culture held in North American museum collections currently do research online, and how their experience could be improved. This research is part of a multiyear effort to create a new public digital resource that will make it easier to access information about African objects in North American museum collections by aggregating information from multiple websites. We’d like to hear from you what information would be most useful for your research on African objects in North American museum collections. Please also forward this survey to other Africa-based individuals, institutions, or organizations working in cultural heritage who you think might be interested in participating.

This survey will take 5 - 10 minutes to fill out. Please respond by Friday, June 23rd 2023, at midnight EST. This effort is part of the Collaboration, Collections, and Restitution Best Practices for North American Art Museums Holding African Objects Working Group (CCRBP), an affiliate of the Arts Council of the African Studies Association (ACASA).
